Air Pollution Control Division
Advancing the health and well-being of Coloradans by protecting the quality of the air they breathe.
Air Pollution Control
About the division
The mission of the CDPHE Air Pollution Control Division is to improve and protect outdoor air quality in Colorado by developing and implementing cost-effective, efficient air pollution control measures that comply with state and federal law. The division issues and enforces air quality permits, monitors outdoor air pollution, and more.
Ozone pollution and your health
The air division develops policies to address air pollution emissions that form ground-level ozone pollution. High levels of ozone pollution can cause health concerns for sensitive people, particularly older Coloradans, young children, and those with asthma or other respiratory conditions.
Climate change
CDPHE created the air division’s Climate Change Unit in December 2019. The team leads on developing policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions to protect a livable climate and make progress towards goals in the state’s Greenhouse Gas Pollution Roadmap.
Greenhouse gas roadmap
The air division works on policies to help achieve emissions reduction targets in the state’s Greenhouse Gas Pollution Reduction Roadmap. The roadmap establishes the 2005 baseline for emissions, assesses the effects of policy changes on meeting pollution reduction targets, and evaluates potential pathways toward reaching pollution reduction goals.
