The Colorado Smoke Management Program supports proactive fire mitigation and prescribed fire projects that create defensible space and reduce hazardous fuels so Colorado communities are better prepared in the event of a wildfire. With Colorado communities experiencing record numbers of COVID cases, it will be even more important than usual to reduce smoke exposure to the surrounding residences. When communities are in Red or Purple status, permittees will work with their local health department to develop smoke mitigations targeted to the size and location of their project.
