EMS Provider reciprocity in Colorado

#FFFFFF

Colorado does not have a reciprocity process for EMS providers. All first-time applicants must be registered with the NREMT at the level they intend to practice. Another state's EMS provider license or certification does not allow you to practice in Colorado.

Initial EMS provider certification requirements in Colorado:

  • NREMT at the practice level.
  • Valid professional BLS card.
  • Valid ACLS card (paramedic and intermediate only.)
  • Fingerprints submitted to the Colorado Bureau of Investigations.
  • Create an account and submit an application in the OATH portal.

Reciprocity verification requests

Some states allow EMS providers to become initially certified via verification of another state’s certification or license. The EMTS branch will provide verification of your Colorado EMS provider certification via a letter which states the status and provider level of the applicant. The EMTS branch does not fill out state reciprocity forms.

Please email your state’s reciprocity verification request form to: cdphe.emtcert@state.co.us. Please include the other state EMS office fax number and mailing address in the email.
