The Emergency Medical Practice Advisory Council (EMPAC) operates under the direction of the department's executive director and advises the department about the appropriate scope of practice for EMS providers. This includes application review for waivers to the standard scope of practice as well as setting criteria for physicians to serve as EMS medical directors. Meetings are held quarterly.

The next quarterly meetings of the Regional Medical Directors committee and Emergency Medical Practice Advisory Council will be held Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendance is in-person or virtual.

Regional Medical Director meetings
EMS regional medical directors (RMD) meet quarterly in conjunction with the Emergency Medical Practice Advisory Council meeting. The public is welcome to attend RMD meetings. RMD meetings are held 2 hours prior to the EMPAC meeting.
RMD meetings intend to:

Facilitate peer communication and cooperation.

Provide resources to EMS agency medical directors.

Facilitate regional EMS continuous quality improvement activities.

Promote regional standardization of protocols for levels of service.

Promote regional standardization of the education and continued training of EMS providers.

Facilitate communications between the department and agency medical directors.

Facilitate communications between agency medical directors and the health care community.
