Colorado Infant Hearing Advisory Committee

The Colorado Infant Hearing Advisory Committee (CIHAC) provides recommendations to hospitals, health care institutions, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, and the public concerning, but not limited to, newborn hearing screening methodologies, guidelines for reporting and the means to assure that identified children receive referrals for appropriate follow-up services.

The CIHAC guidelines for providers are available as a resource on the Provider Resources section of our website.

The CIHAC advises the department on issues related to newborn hearing screening in the State. They may also share information with the department on how to report data in a format that is understandable to providers and the public.

ASL interpretation will be provided at CIHAC meetings. ASL community members, it is recommended that you "pin" the ASL interpreters to the screen, so that you can see the interpreters at all times. The interpreters will identify as “ASL Interpreter.” We have learned that it is easier for CDPHE staff to track the interpreter switch when we spotlight interpreters, so that strategy may be used.
