Colorado Infant Hearing Advisory Committee

The Colorado Infant Hearing Advisory Committee provides recommendations to hospitals, health care institutions, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the public concerning, but not limited to, newborn hearing screening methodologies, guidelines for reporting and the means to assure that identified children receive referrals for appropriate follow-up services.

Colorado Infant Hearing Advisory Committee (CIHAC)

The Colorado Infant Hearing Advisory Committee (CIHAC) advises the department on issues related to newborn hearing screening in the State.

Meetings

The CIHAC meetings are held on a quarterly basis at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, 4300 Cherry Creek Drive South, Denver, and are held in person or by Zoom conference call. Meeting announcements and updates will be listed below, and all meetings are open to the public. If you are interested in being added to the stakeholder email list, please email leanne.glenn@state.co.us. 

The Colorado Infant Hearing Advisory Committee may temporarily convene separate subcommittees. Please see the minutes below for those subcommittee meetings.

All meetings will take place from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Colorado EHDI Alliance

The Colorado EHDI alliance is an informal group developed by the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) under their HRSA EHDI grant to gather information from Colorado’s EHDI community on task forces for areas such as screening, evaluation, intervention, Deaf and hard of hearing adults, and so on. Please see their website for any meeting announcements, agendas, and minutes.

 The EHDI Interagency Steering Committee

An interagency group of the four government agencies involved in Colorado’s entire EHDI system. The agencies are:

  • Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment
  • Colorado Department of Human Services
  • Colorado Department of Early Childhood
  • Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind

To fulfill the need for multi-agency collaboration in Colorado, this interagency group was created in 2024 after a years-long gaps analysis beginning in 2022 (with a 100-provider survey and multiple focus groups) funded by CDPHE. Our partners at CDHS are housing the steering committee documents, including a four-agency overview of the roles of all four government agencies.
 

The steering committee currently meets monthly on the first Tuesday of the month, with a public comment/Q & A section open from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. To be added to the regular Google calendar invitation, please email Ashley Juhl (ashley.juhl@state.co.us), CDPHE’s Program Manager for Colorado Responds to Children with Special Needs, who is managing invites to the public section of these meetings.
 

June 4 - Continuation of Policy work group hosted by Children’s Hospital Colorado

This meeting time was updated was as announced by email on April 23.

CDPHE staff have learned that Children's Hospital Colorado will be hosting a policy workgroup regarding legislation for 2026. Please contact Lauren.Freemire@childrenscolorado.org for more information.  

Children's Hospital Colorado is in charge of all arrangements for this meeting. Please contact them if you would like to attend and require ASL interpretation or would like an agenda or minutes from this meeting.

Please let us know about any other related meetings that CIHAC members are attending that may interest multiple CIHAC stakeholders so that we can post them here to comply with the Open Meetings law.
