Partner counseling and Expedited Partner Therapy

Expedited Partner Therapy (EPT) is the clinical practice of treating the sex partners of patients diagnosed with chlamydia or
gonorrhea by providing prescriptions or medications to the patient to take to his/her partner without the health care provider
first examining the partner. The CDC has been joined by the American Medical Association in recommending that EPT be
considered and implemented as a partner management strategy.

In spite of barriers to implementing EPT, it's legal in Colorado and we encourage health care providers to address and overcome
these barriers to reduce the burden of STI. We're available to support you in implementing EPT in your counseling efforts.
Please refer to the CDC for further information and feel free to contact us for questions or assistance.
