Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is medication to reduce the risk of acquiring HIV through sex or injection drug use.  PrEP can be pills or shots. PrEP is highly effective for preventing HIV. When taken as prescribed, PrEP reduces the risk of acquiring HIV from sex by about 99% and from injection drug use by at least 74%.

The cost of PrEP includes paying for medication, medical appointments, and lab tests. But, many health insurance providers, as well as Health First Colorado (Medicaid) will help cover the cost of PrEP.
