On December 1, 2016, The Department issued a determination that the proposed ablation operations at the Sunday Mine by Black Range Minerals must be regulated by the Department through a milling license pursuant to Part 18 of the Regulations.
Background
In July 2015, Black Range Minerals submitted information to the department about its ablation technology and asked the department to make a determination on how this technology would be regulated under the Colorado Rules and Regulations Pertaining to Radiation Control.
We requested additional information from Black Range in August 2015 and received a response from Black Range in April 2016.
We conducted a 75-day stakeholder process between May 9 and July 22, 2016 including four public meetings across Colorado, and obtained several hundred written and oral public comments
