Rural Essential Access Provider (REAP) Loan Repayment Program hourly requirements

Direct clinical care

  • A medically necessary medical, dental, mental health or behavioral health visit or a qualified preventive health visit is direct clinical care. 
  • The visit must be a face-to-face/one-on-one encounter between the patient and clinician during which time one or more services are rendered.
  • Every contracted participant must engage in the clinical practice of the eligible discipline for which he or she was awarded, at the approved site, for the duration of the service obligation.

Full-time service obligation

  • All participants must work at least 40 hours per week, year round. 
    • A minimum of 32 hours per week must be spent in direct face-to-face patient care at the approved site(s).
  • Clinicians who regularly perform pregnancy-related care or behavioral health care may provide up to 11 of the 32 clinical contact hours in an alternative site.

Part-time service obligation

  • All participants must work at least 20 hours per week, year-round. 
    • A minimum of 16 hours per week must be spent in direct face-to-face patient care at the approved site(s).
  • Clinicians who regularly perform pregnancy-related care or behavioral health care may provide up to five of the 16 clinical contact hours in an alternative site
