As many as 1.89 million people are living with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in the United States.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s (CDPHE) Immunization branch houses the Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program (PHBPP).
Colorado's PHBPP aims to ensure that people who are pregnant are tested for hepatitis B, which can be passed to the infant during birth. If a person who is pregnant has hepatitis B, their infant can be given preventive treatment to reduce the risk of the baby developing the infection. This program aligns with national efforts to eliminate hepatitis B in the United States. By providing proper care and management to eligible infants and their families, we can greatly reduce the chance of infants developing a long-term hepatitis B infection. This helps to protect the health of the child and reduces the spread of hepatitis B in Colorado communities.
