The Medical Marijuana Scientific Advisory Council was established per Senate Bill 14-155, which was passed in May 2014 and amended CRS 25-1.5-106.5. The council meets as needed, and all meetings are open for public attendance.
- Provides scientific peer-review of marijuana research proposals.
- Ensures objectivity in evaluation of research proposals and guards against funding research that's biased in favor of or against particular outcomes.
- Submits recommendations to the Board of Health for marijuana research grant recipients, grant amounts and grant duration.
- Advises the Colorado Department of Revenue on whether marijuana research proposals involving a Research and Development license and conducted with state funds or at a public institution, meet criteria established in CRS 44-10-507.
Description of funded research grants approved by the Board of Health
The council is composed of up to thirteen members, plus our chief medical officer or designee. Members have subject matter expertise in the areas specified in statute. Conflict of interest statements for each member are publicly available.
