Benefits for Adult Day Care Centers

Who does CACFP serve in adult day care centers?

  • Functionally impaired adults.
  • Adults 60 years of age or older.

Which adult day care centers are eligible for CACFP?

  • Must be Medicaid certified.
    • At least 25% of enrolled eligible participants must receive Medicaid or qualify for free and reduced meals and snacks. Qualifying income can be established through determination of eligibility for free or reduced meals.
  • A 501-c3 nonprofit.

Why apply to CACFP?

For adult day care centers, participation in CACFP:

  • Helps cover the cost of two meals and a snack per adult each day that are aligned with licensing rules. Savings can be used for other adult care program needs.
  • Offers nutrition education and professional development opportunities for center staff.
  • Supports marketing of the program to families who want their family members to receive nutritious meals.
  • Can support the cost of staff responsible for carrying out the CACFP program.

For adult participants, CACFP:

  • Exposes them to a variety of healthy foods.
  • Provides healthy meals so they can maintain health to prevent or delay assisted living or nursing home placement.
  • Supports their social and emotional needs to support a sense of connectedness.

For families, participation in CACFP:

  • Helps stretch their own food resources at home.
  • Improves and maintains the health and nutritional status of adults.
  • Gives confidence that their adult family member attends a quality program.
