Standard Mine Natural Resource Damages

Solicitation for project proposals to restore, replace or acquire natural resources

Background

Standard Metals Corporation owned and operated the Standard Mine Superfund site near Crested Butte and various mine sites in the Animas River watershed near Silverton, Colorado.

The mine sites were considered a hazardous substance release, which injured natural resources.
Standard Metals Corporation filed for bankruptcy; however, through the State and federal government’s diligent efforts, the Natural Resource Trustees received natural resource damages through a variety of insurance claims.

Restoration

The Trustees are in the process of soliciting new restoration projects for the Upper Gunnison River Basin. Please review the solicitation of project proposals to restore, replace and acquire natural resources (link at the top of this page) to learn how to submit a proposal to be considered.
