Standard Mine Restoration

Background

Standard Metals Corporation owned and operated the Standard Mine Superfund site near Crested Butte and various mine sites in the Animas River watershed near Silverton, Colorado.

The mine sites were considered a hazardous substance release, which injured natural resources.

Standard Metals Corporation filed for bankruptcy; however, through the State and federal government’s diligent efforts, the Natural Resource Trustees received natural resource damages through a variety of insurance claims.

Restoration

The Natural Resource Trustees awarded $230,000, a portion of the Standard Metals settlement, for the Gossan Restoration Project. The remaining settlement money will be included with the Bonita Peak Mining District restoration projects.
