Background
Vail Resorts recently settled Colorado’s claim for natural resource damages from an accidental release of hazardous substances from its snowmaking operations in 2021 resulting in killing fish and damaging surface water and habitat for 1.5 miles in Mill and Gore Creeks.
Settlement
In August 2023, Colorado entered into a global settlement with Vail Resorts for $275,000 to resolve claims by the Water Quality Control Commission, Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Colorado Natural Resource Trustees. The majority of the settlement, $249,000 will be used for restoration projects in the Gore Creek basin.
