Nursing homes

Patients are people who are frail elderly and people with chronic illness who need routine or skilled nursing care in a residential facility.

Services offered at these facilities are

  • Room and board.
  • 24/7 nursing coverage.
  • Assistance with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing and eating.
  • Facilities designated as "skilled" nursing facilities provide short- and long-term rehabilitative services and additional skilled nursing care.
  • Some facilities have secured units to provide closer supervision for people with dementia.
  • Licensed staff who are routinely on-site are nurses and social workers. Facilities that provide rehabilitative services have occupational, speech and physical therapists.
