Colorado hospitals join state health compact to improve nutrition

Denver, (September 16, 2021): Yesterday, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) recognized 14 hospitals involved with the Colorado Healthy Hospital Compact, an agreement by hospitals to promote breastfeeding and offer healthier food and beverage options in cafeterias, vending machines, and patient menus. This work helps to develop a culture of wellness and contributes to the state's goal of making Colorado the healthiest state.

2022 National Radon Video and Poster Contests Now Open to Colorado Students

(REMOTE) Sept. 8, 2021 - The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment invites students to participate in the 2022 National Radon Video and Poster contests. Students have the opportunity to creatively educate people about indoor radon risks, win cash prizes, and have their artwork and videos distributed across the state or country. Entries must be received by November 20. 

State health department debuts a new advanced mobile air monitoring and leak detection van

REMOTE (Aug. 18): Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment now has a new mobile air monitoring van, which gives the department another advanced tool for monitoring emissions across the state and detecting fugitive emissions and leaks from oil and gas operations and other facilities.

Plague activity identified in Colorado

Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, in cooperation with local public health agencies, is investigating plague (Yersinia pestis) activity. Currently, there have been laboratory confirmed reports of plague in animals and fleas from six counties.

State health department to fly over oil and gas sites to monitor for methane 

REMOTE (July 16): Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment took to the skies this week, completing the state’s first airborne survey designed to monitor for methane and other emissions at major oil and gas sites in the Denver-Julesburg Basin. The initial flight is the first of many scheduled for 2021. The aerial surveys will focus on areas north and northwest of Denver in Boulder, Weld and Larimer counties.
