DENVER— Lindsay Diamond, a recognized advocate for childhood vaccines among parents and public health professionals in Colorado, has been named Colorado’s 2018 CDC Childhood Immunization Champion.
“Lindsay leverages her science background to make the science of vaccinations understandable and approachable to everyone,” said Dr. Indira Gujral, communicable disease and emergency management division manager at Boulder County Public Health. “Her advocacy, leadership and collaboration are transforming our program mission and will hopefully transform our community's attitudes and beliefs.”
Diamond is the co-founder of Support Your Herd, a nonprofit working to inform the Boulder County community about immunizations, advocate for immunizations at the state and local level, and support the emergence of a pro-vaccine social network to support healthy communities. Diamond has always been a scientist, but when she became a mother, she began working to ensure parents are making decisions based on facts, they understand the consequences their decisions have on others, and they take an informed approach to better understanding vaccines.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the CDC Foundation award champions each year during National Infant Immunization Week. The champions are those who go above and beyond to ensure children in their communities are fully immunized against 14 preventable diseases before the age of 2.
