(Denver) Feb. 10, 2023: The Office of Gun Violence Prevention is proud to announce that it is expanding its pilot grant program to increase award amounts to a $50,000 maximum. The announcement comes after nearly 30 organizations have responded to the pilot program in less than a month.
“We are very pleased to have so many organizations apply for grant funding and that we have an opportunity to significantly expand the grant program to give even more organizations a chance to apply,” said Jonathan McMillan, Director, Office of Gun Violence Prevention.
The Office of Gun Violence Prevention will now accept applications through Feb. 23. Organizations that have already applied for the smaller grants can amend their applications for larger amounts, if they choose.
The Office of Gun Violence Prevention plans to award approximately $450,000 in total funding.
"I am happy to see the Office of Gun Violence Prevention expand grant funding," Senator Tom Sullivan, D-Centennial, said. "While we still have a lot of work to do to end gun violence in Colorado, I am pleased that there is so much enthusiasm for addressing this epidemic, and I look forward to the implementation of these community-based programs."

There is still more work to be done, but this is a step in the right direction in our fight to end gun violence.”

The new grant program is designed to fund projects that conduct community-based gun violence prevention initiatives that are evidence-informed and have demonstrated promise at reducing violence. Funds may be used for education, training and community programs regarding topics including responsible gun ownership practices, safe storage, existing laws, mental health, and substance use resources.
Applications are open to non-profit organizations, local governments, local health and human services departments, federally-recognized Tribal governments, universities and other educational institutions, for-profit corporations, faith-based organizations, grassroots organizations and individuals.

Los fondos se podrán usar para programas de educación, capacitación y para la comunidad que traten temas tales como las prácticas seguras en la propiedad de armas de fuego, el almacenamiento seguro, las leyes vigentes, la salud mental y los recursos para abordar el consumo de sustancias.
La convocatoria está abierta a individuos, organizaciones sin fines de lucro, gobiernos locales, departamentos locales de salud o servicios sociales, gobiernos tribales con reconocimiento federal, universidades y otras instituciones educativas, corporaciones con fines de lucro, organizaciones de inspiración religiosa y organizaciones comunitarias.
