DENVER: The Colorado Solid and Hazardous Waste Commission will meet in Alamosa on Monday, Aug. 12, to hear local perspectives on solid and hazardous waste issues in the area. Community members, government employees, and elected officials from the area are all encouraged to attend. The commission will meet at 7 p.m. at the Alamosa City Council Chambers at 300 Hunt Ave.

"Getting a firsthand look at local operations and talking with residents better informs the commission and helps them fulfill their responsibility to protect our environment,” said Brandy Valdez-Murphy, commission administrator. “The commission looks forward to hearing local perspectives on the unique waste issues in the San Luis Valley."

The commission meets quarterly and typically holds one meeting per year outside the Denver metro area. Commission members have visited Fort Morgan, Pueblo, Grand Junction and Fort Collins in recent years.

The Colorado Solid and Hazardous Waste Commission is a nine-member board appointed by the governor. Its primary role is to adopt rules pertaining to solid and hazardous waste. The commission is made up of three members from the regulated industry, three members from local government or academia, and three members from the public at large. Members represent a variety of interests and areas of the state.
