REMOTEL (Jan. 26, 2021): The Colorado Air Quality Enterprise board of directors held its first public meeting Tuesday, establishing its rules and procedures and electing officers as it prepares to enhance collaboration between the state government and air quality researchers. The goal of the board is to  provide greater data to inform the state’s ongoing mission to minimize air pollution.

The legislature created the enterprise through legislation last year (SB20-204). The enterprise board will solicit ideas for air quality research projects and fund those that best align with criteria to reduce air emissions and protect public health, including those related to air quality monitoring and modeling.

“High-quality data is absolutely essential to achieving our goal of improving air quality in Colorado,” said Garry Kaufman, director of the Colorado Air Pollution Control Division. “Colorado has some of the best air quality researchers in the world, and the state is excited to collaborate with them and support their vital work.”

The board of directors is expected to initially meet on a monthly basis. Staff for the Air Quality Enterprise held three stakeholder meetings in 2020 and will hold another in February — interested parties can register online.

“We have a lot of work in front of us, and we’re excited to get started,” said Stefanie Rucker, administrator for the board of directors. “And we know it’s important to get public input into these important issues as well, so in the near future we’re going to come to Coloradans with opportunities to provide comment and offer insight.”

The members of the board of directors are appointed by the Governor. The current board is as follows:
