Literature review

Background

Work-related stress and trauma, well-documented experiences in health care and response workforces, not only shape the mental health and resilience of these workforces, but also contribute to poor retention and turnover.

Purpose

The advisory group’s rapid literature review documented findings from interrelated research areas to identify characteristics of effective interventions for promoting resilience and retention among healthcare and response workforces.

Method

The workgroup sought a sufficient survey and synthesis of relevant, research-informed themes to guide the efforts of healthcare and emergency response organizations addressing work-related stress and other impacts on workforce resilience and retention.
