Disordered eating can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or ethnic background, and its impact on mental and physical health can be significant. Whether you are personally struggling with disordered eating or someone interested in learning more, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Disordered Eating Prevention Resource Hub is here to connect you with helpful information and resources. It was developed in consultation with experts and individuals with lived experience in disordered eating symptoms and treatment.
The Disordered Eating Prevention Program understands that many different behaviors and beliefs about food and body image can impact people's health and well-being. These might result in behaviors that are symptoms of eating disorders but happen less often or are not as severe. Disordered eating can include eating too much, not eating enough, or having irregular eating habits.
Nine percent of Coloradans (501,370 people), will have an eating disorder in their lifetime.
The 2018 Harvard Public Health Strategic Training Initiative for the Prevention of Eating Disorders one-pager has more statistics about how disordered eating affects Coloradans.
Please note that this hub is not intended to be used as a diagnostic or treatment tool. It offers information on various programs and support networks that address disordered eating and promote mental well-being.
Resources are reviewed and updated on an annual basis to ensure the disordered eating prevention resource hub provides the most relevant and up-to-date information. Each resource is evaluated with the goal of offering comprehensive support on all topics related to disordered eating prevention.
