RFA #42534: Promoting Health Equity and Reducing Disparities in Sexual Violence
Application Due Date: March 15, 2024
The overall goal of this funding opportunity is to reduce disparities in sexual violence by addressing the social and structural inequities that drive those disparities. All strategies proposed for funding must be primary prevention community-level strategies meant to keep violence from happening in the first place.
Community engagement
Anticipating a new request for applications (RFA) release this fall, the SVP program wanted to explore more community-driven solutions and include more community voices in our programmatic decision-making.
Over a months-long process from October 2022 - May 2023, the SVP program convened an advisory group, including individuals with varied lived experiences and identities- including sexual assault survivorship, to help guide the program in identifying community prevention needs and solutions related to sexual violence. Appreciating the disparities that exist in experiences of violence and current gaps in resources available across the state, the SVP program intentionally sought input from individuals and organizations within the Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, and Allied/Asexual/Aromantic/Agender (LGBTQIA+) community. Concurrent with advisory meetings, community interviews, surveys, and focus groups were conducted in partnership with the LGBTQIA+ BIPOC community to collect further information about the unique experiences and needs of that community around sexual violence prevention. Based on this community input and the experiences shared by community partners, the SVP program and advisory identified four core funding priorities:
- Creating Protective Environments
- Enhancing Economic Stability
- Increasing Access to Affirming Systems of Care
- Innovations Around Social/System Factors that Impact Overall Equity in Health and Wellness

We seek to identify and partner with organizations that amplify the voice of our priority communities that we know are most impacted by sexual violence (Black, Indigenous, People of Color; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, and Allied/Asexual/Aromantic/Agender (LGBTQIA+); Disability community; Immigrant/Refugee community).
To support future applicants we are offering a series of meetings to help prepare interested organizations to learn more about:
- The SVP program and its funding priorities
- The public health approach to violence prevention
- How their organization’s current work is connected to sexual violence prevention
- Project collaboration opportunities
Any organization interested in applying for a future funding opportunity, aligned with the above funding priorities, may attend the meetings listed below. Sexual Violence Prevention Program Community Mirror Project: Phases 2 & 3
March: Community Report
- Findings from the Community Conversations Report will be presented in open meetings, along with facilitator recommendations to the Advisory Team and the general public. The Advisory Team and community participants will discuss these findings and share their own experiences to help create prevention strategies and funding areas for future program priorities.
April: Recommendations
- Based on the two previous Community Conversation discussions, the Advisory Team will further discuss, evaluate, and refine the next steps and create recommendations. The recommendations will prioritize sexual violence prevention work that incorporates community needs, feedback, and direction and drives actionable strategies for future violence prevention work.
May: Application 2.0
- The Advisory Team will review the previous Sexual Violence Prevention Grant application and applications of similar programs' grants. The Advisory Team will, with the new recommendations and priority areas in mind, recommend revisions and changes to create a more inclusive and accessible process that does not create a burden or barrier for applicants to receive consideration for funding.
June & July: Get Ready Sessions
- Educational and Skill Building Get Ready Sessions will be held for any interested potential applicants, to help prepare for the upcoming application process. Sessions may include budget creation, supportive data sources, insurance and requirements, public health key concepts, and connecting strategies to risk and protective factors.
August & September: Applications Open
- The formal request for Applications will open for Sexual Violence Prevention Program grant funding. The next grant period will begin February 1, 2024, and continue through January 21, 2029.
