Your health during pregnancy: Eating healthy and staying active

Choosing healthy foods during pregnancy can help you to gain the right amount of weight.

Try to:

  • Choose foods low in fat.

  • Eat fruits and vegetables every day.

  • Drink eight glasses of water every day.

  • Cut back on sweets and soft drinks.

  • Choose low-fat dairy products.

For most women, being physically active during pregnancy is good for you and your baby. Be sure to check with your doctor.

Activities like walking, water aerobics, swimming, yoga or using a stationary bike are good options for pregnant women. Be sure to drink plenty of water and stop activity if you feel tired, dizzy, or short of breath, or have pain, swelling or numbness.
