Flu information

Public health reporting

  • Positive influenza laboratory tests
    • Facilities that report via electronic laboratory reporting must report all influenza positive laboratory results.
  • Influenza-associated hospitalizations
    • Patients who are hospitalized within 14 days of a positive influenza test or test positive for influenza at any time during a hospital admission.
  • Influenza-associated pediatric deaths
    • Report any suspected or confirmed influenza-associated pediatric death in children under 18 years.
  • Outbreaks:
    • Residential care facilities/schools/child care centers must report confirmed or suspected outbreaks immediately (within four hours of detection) to the appropriate local public health agency or to CDPHE by calling 303-692-2700 (after hours 303-370-9395).
    • After reporting by phone, facilities should complete the online outbreak information form to provide additional details (e.g., census, illness, testing, and outcome information). Alternatively, facilities may download and complete a PDF version of the outbreak information form and send it to your local public health agency or the CDPHE Viral Respiratory team (cdphe_flu_rsv@state.co.us) via secure email.
    • Refer to the specific guidance listed below that covers the facility/setting type where the outbreak is occurring for more detailed information.
