The Colorado Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (CCCCP) is funded through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (NCCCP) and is administered through the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) to:
- Increase cancer prevention and control across the continuum of care including:
- primary prevention
- screening and early detection
- cancer survivorship
- Focus on populations:
- located in high cancer-burden geographic areas within Colorado
and/or - who have been identified as being a member of a disproportionately affected demographic group, including rural, Black, American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN), and Hispanic communities.
- located in high cancer-burden geographic areas within Colorado
Key priorities
The CDC's National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (NCCCP) focuses on six key priorities to enhance cancer prevention and control efforts:
Stress primary prevention, or making healthy choices to stop cancer before it starts.
Help people find cancer early by getting screened at the right time.
Support people diagnosed with cancer (survivors) through their treatment and beyond.
Provide proven strategies for states, health care networks, and others to ensure that cancer control efforts are effective for everyone who needs them.
Promote access to good health care for everyone.
Study policies and programs to make sure they work.
In alignment with the six priorities, CCCP:
- supports policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) approaches through strategies that leverage data to identify need
- collaborates with partners across the state
- implements evidence-based interventions (EBIs) to improve screening
- monitors and evaluates progress
Additionally, the Colorado Cancer Plan is a critical document that guides Colorado in making decisions based on cancer prevention, control, and care priorities. These combined efforts are intended to work together to impact Colorado’s cancer burden.
Partnership
The Colorado Cancer Coalition is a statewide collaborative and valued partner in working to eliminate the burden of cancer in Colorado.
